Effects of lexical cues on phrase structure encoding: evidence from the production of genitives in Dutch

This paper examined the role of lexical processing in phrase structure building sentence production. We asked whether speakers exploit a cue as guide (i.e. cued word occurs earlier sentence) and retrieval facilitates memorised structure). In two experiments, participants recalled Dutch genitive sentences. some recall trials, they received that repeated one argument to-be-recalled sentence. further read then generated new from visually-presented triplet arguments. The visual salience arguments overlap were manipulated. all four consistently started with word. There was no evidence cueing effect on retrieval. findings suggest mainly information when formulating structures.
